Here we have a FML Ecology Wildlife Volunteer putting a roosting nest pocket up at Great Elm.  It is claimed that these pockets help birds save up to 1/3 of body fat by roosting in a sheltered place during cold winter months.  This aids survival when food stocks and temperatures are low.  The pockets also provide a warm nesting place in spring for small birds like wrens and robins.
